The past two volleyball games have seen the Titans get a win and a loss. They defeated Woodward 3-0 on September 27, but lost last night’s contest to Northwest 0-3.
The Titans began their win against Woodward with a closely-contested first set, narrowly edging out the Bulldogs with a score of 25-23. The second set mirrored the initial one, with St. Bernard-Elmwood Place maintaining their composure and finishing again at 25-23. In the third set, the Titans showcased their superior skill and team coordination, overpowering Woodward with a significant 25-12 score, thus completing the match with a clean sweep.
Key players emerged throughout the match, contributing significantly to the triumph. Tessa Jewell led with an impressive eight kills and 16 assists, proving to be a central figure in the team’s offense. Makayla Harris followed with six kills and two blocks, solidifying the defensive efforts while also contributing in attacks. Devon Renner and Joselynn Telinda each added four kills, and Renner excelled with four aces.
Defensive plays were equally vital to the Titans’ success. Joselynn Telinda stood out with six digs, supporting the team against Woodward’s spikes. Tessa Jewell, Makayla Harris, Bella Potter, and Devon Renner were also important to the team’s defense, with Potter and several others achieving important aces. These performances showcased a well-rounded and resilient team, adept in both offense and defense.
In yesterday’s intense game, SBEP faced a tough loss against the Northwest Knights, concluding with a 0-3 set score at Northwest High School.
The first set was close, with the Titans only slightly behind, at 22-25. They continued to show resilience in the second set, finishing narrowly at 23-25. However, the third set saw the Titans struggle to keep pace, culminating in a 11-25 finish.
Makayla Harris, Tessa Jewell, and Devon Renner, each provided three kills in the game. Tessa Jewell showcased her defensive skills with 11 digs and nine assists, leading the team in multiple categories. Hayden Spears stood out with two aces, while Tosha Smith and Brie Morris also contributed significantly on defense. Despite Bella Potter’s efforts with a solo block, the team could not capitalize enough to turn the tide.
Looking forward, the Titans will confront the CCPA Lions tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Cincinnati College Preparatory Academy, aiming to improve their current 7-7 record.
